Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Education

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Education at Shenzhen University aims to advance knowledge, practice, and policy in education through rigorous research, innovative scholarship, and strong partnerships with schools, communities, and policymakers. The program is dedicated to developing scholars who can contribute to educational improvement at local, national, and international levels, with an emphasis on equity, ethics, and social relevance in the context of China's rapidly evolving educational landscape.

The program objectives are:

·Cultivate advanced research competencies in education, including conceptualization, design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination.

·Produce original contributions to theory, methodology, and practice that address pressing educational challenges.

·Prepare graduates for leadership roles in higher education, research centers, policy institutes, and educational organizations.

·Foster interdisciplinary collaboration across pedagogy, psychology, technology, administration, and policy studies.

·Promote ethical research practices, cultural responsiveness, and a commitment to social justice in education.

The PhD program supports diverse research interests. Current thematic concentrations include, but are not limited to: A. Lesson Study, Learning Study and Teacher Professional Development; B. 深圳大學(xué)教育學(xué)部特聘教授、教育研究院院長(zhǎng),博士生導(dǎo)師。李樹(shù)英教授是國(guó)際知名教育學(xué)者、教育現(xiàn)象學(xué)和課堂學(xué)習(xí)研究專(zhuān)家,指導(dǎo)過(guò)中國(guó)內(nèi)地、港澳和加拿大四十多名博士生,主持開(kāi)展了國(guó)內(nèi)國(guó)際三十余項(xiàng)大型科研項(xiàng)目。李教授是加拿大阿爾伯塔大學(xué)教育學(xué)博士,過(guò)去三十五年來(lái)先后任職于阿爾伯塔大學(xué)、香港中文大學(xué)、香港教育大學(xué)、澳門(mén)城市大學(xué)等七所高校,后以特聘教授身份加入深圳大學(xué)。他的研究領(lǐng)域涵蓋基礎(chǔ)教育與高等教育多個(gè)方向,包括教育現(xiàn)象學(xué)、高等教育、課程與教學(xué)論、課例研究、教師專(zhuān)業(yè)發(fā)展、課堂行動(dòng)研究等。

Distinguished Professor, Director of the Institute of Education Research at Shenzhen University, PhD Supervisor. Professor Li is an internationally well recognized education scholar, a leading expert in phenomenological pedagogy, Lesson and Learning Study. He has supervised over 40 PhD students from Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, and Canada. He has conducted over 30 large scale education research projects both at national and international level. Professor Li obtained his PhD in Education at University of Alberta, Canada. Over the past 35 years, he has worked in University of Alberta, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Education University, City University of Macau and the other three universities before he was relocated to Shenzhen University as Distinguished Professor. His research covers a wide range of topics from basic to higher learning including Phenomenological Pedagogy, Higher Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Lesson and Learning Study, Teacher Professional Development, Classroom based Action Research, and so on.

Dr. Xiaoming Cao, a doctoral advisor in Educational Technology, holds a Ph.D. from Beijing Normal University. Currently serving as Associate Dean of the Faculty of Education at Shenzhen University and Director of the Center for Intelligent Teaching and Research, he also holds appointments as a member of the Professional Committee for Basic Education Teaching Guidance under the Ministry of Education and Vice Chair of the Committee on Educational Measurement and Evaluation of the China Association of Educational Technology. He has authored four books and textbooks, including “New Media and Technologies in Digital Learning,” and published over 40 academic papers. He has completed several research projects, such as the Ministry of Education Humanities and Social Sciences project “Research on the Recognition Mechanism of Learning Engagement in Smart Learning Environments Based on Multi-Modal Fusion.” His research focuses on innovative ICT-based teaching, AI education, and the application of AI in Education.

Li Penghu is a tenured associate professor, deputy director of the Faculty of Education, doctoral supervisor, and visiting scholar at New York University (sponsored by the China Scholarship Council). He also serves as an executive director of the Teacher Education Society of the China Higher Education Association and the fourth deputy secretary-general of the Higher Education Professional Committee of the Guangdong Higher Education Association. His research focuses on higher education policy and management, university organizational transformation, interdisciplinary research, and comparative higher education. He has published over 30 academic papers and three books. He has presided over one National Education Science Planning Project, two Guangdong Provincial Education Science Planning Projects, and one Shenzhen Municipal Education Science Planning Major Policy Special Project and one Key Project.

In recent years, my work has concentrated on two main areas: one is research on youth social identity and moral education reform, which examines the characteristics of youth social identity from a contemporary perspective and explores directions for moral education reform; the other is research on the professional development of head teachers, which focuses on a unique group of Chinese educators—the head teacher. Drawing on sociological theories, I investigate the fundamental principles underlying their professional development.

HUANG, Shenghua is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at Shenzhen University. She earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2020. From 2016 to 2018, she served as a Research Assistant at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and in 2020, she was a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Work and Social Psychology at Maastricht University, the Netherlands. With expertise spanning both management and education, she has extensive research experience in primary and secondary education, teacher professional development, and school leadership. She has published over 20 papers in high-impact SSCI-indexed journals, including Educational Research ReviewTeaching and Teacher Education, and Educational Psychology. Since joining Shenzhen University, she has presided over one project funded by the National Education Science Planning Program and has led or participated in several other projects at the municipal, departmental, provincial, ministerial, and national levels.

He has led more than 10 major research projects, including key discipline development programs under the National "211 Project," major national basic education curriculum reform initiatives, key projects funded by the National Social Science Fund, major humanities and social science research projects supported by the Ministry of Education, and various talent program projects.

His notable awards include two first prizes and three second prizes for Outstanding Achievements in Scientific Research (Humanities and Social Sciences) from the Ministry of Education, two second prizes for Outstanding Achievements in National Education Scientific Research, and three first prizes, five second prizes, and one third prize for Outstanding Philosophical and Social Science Research Achievements at the provincial level. He played a leading role in securing national recognition for several key academic initiatives, including the National Key Discipline in "Curriculum and Instruction Theory" (2007), the National-Level Teaching Team for "Curriculum and Instruction Theory" (2010), the National High-Quality Course for "Curriculum and Instruction Theory" (2011), the National High-Quality Resource Course for "Curriculum and Instruction Theory" (2014), and one of the first batch of National First-Class Undergraduate Courses (Online, 2020). He also served as the chief editor of several national and provincial-level planning textbooks for the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period, such as "Curriculum Theory" and "Modern Pedagogy."
